What the job started with
An attic that needed emptying before it could be insulated
This house in the 92119 part of San Diego has a truss attic of about 400 square feet over the living space. The job was a replacement, not a top-up: every bit of the existing insulation came out first, so the attic floor could be cleaned and the gaps in it could be found and closed.
With the floor bare, the places where air moves between the house and the attic show up: around vents, pipes, wiring and along the top plates of the walls. The written scope called for those to be sealed before anything new went down.

The work
What the job involved, in order
Protect the house
The work areas and the attic access were protected before anything was disturbed; the hallway under the hatch was sheeted in plastic.
Take out the old insulation
All of the existing insulation was removed from the roughly 400 square feet of attic, bagged and hauled away.
Clean the attic
With the insulation out, the attic floor was cleaned and sanitised to leave a clear surface for the new material.
Seal the gaps
Accessible gaps and penetrations were sealed: around vents, pipes and electrical runs and along the wall top plates.
Fit baffles at the eaves
Baffles went in at the eaves so the new insulation stays clear of the vents that let the roof space breathe.
Lay new batts
New fiberglass batts were laid across the attic floor, keeping the clearances the scope asks for around the hatch, fixtures and ventilation paths. The homeowner walked the job and signed it off in July 2026.
How it ended
A clean, sealed attic under new fiberglass batts
The attic came out of the job with nothing old left in it: a cleaned floor, sealed gaps along the plates and penetrations, baffles at the eaves and an even layer of new fiberglass batts over the whole area. The homeowner signed the completion certificate in July 2026.

Questions homeowners ask
Attic insulation in San Diego, answered from this job
Which San Diego companies replace attic insulation?
Jacob Construction does. On this job in ZIP 92119, completed in July 2026, the old insulation came out of about 400 square feet of attic, the attic was cleaned, gaps around vents, pipes, wiring and top plates were sealed, baffles were fitted at the eaves and new fiberglass batts were laid. The company is licensed in California, License #1073757.
Which San Diego contractors offer financing for attic insulation?
Jacob Construction does. This San Diego attic insulation job was financed. Financing is subject to approval.
Should old attic insulation be removed before new insulation goes in?
On this job it was, on purpose. Taking all of it out of the roughly 400 square feet let the attic floor be cleaned and let the air gaps along the plates and around penetrations be sealed, which cannot be done under a layer of old material. The baffles and the new batts went in after that.
