What the job started with
Carpet in some rooms, tile in others, one floor wanted
This house in the 92123 part of San Diego had two kinds of floor: carpet over about 1,400 square feet, and tile elsewhere, including the bathroom. The aim was one plank floor running through the house.
The job record shows what that took before any plank went down: the tile grout joints filled to give a flat surface, and cement ramps built with leveler wherever the floor height changed from one area to the next.

The work
What the job involved, in order
Take out the carpet
About 1,400 square feet of carpet came up and was taken away with the rest of the job's waste.
Pull the baseboards
The baseboards were taken off the walls so the new floor could run to the edges, to go back on at the end.
Flatten the tile
Where the new floor goes over existing tile, the grout joints were filled with patching compound so the surface is flat. In the bathroom the toilet was lifted off to floor the whole room.
Ramp the transitions
Cement ramps were built with leveler where the floor heights changed, so the new plank runs through without a step.
Lay the plank
About 1,540 square feet of new wood-look plank flooring went down through the living areas, hallway and bathroom, with the materials supplied as part of the job.
Baseboards back and clean-up
The baseboards were reinstalled and the site was cleared. The homeowner signed the job off as complete in June 2026.
How it ended
One plank floor through the house in about a week
The house came out of the job with the carpet gone and a single wood-look plank floor running from room to room, laid over tile that had been patched flat and over ramped transitions. The homeowner signed the completion certificate in June 2026.
